Chalkwell Bowling Club and it’s famous thatched clubhouse has been a much loved landmark in the Southend area since its creation in 1923.

Whilst the game of lawn bowls has been played here for over one hundred years, to mark our centenary, we explored the possibility of constructing Pétanque courts on the (unused) westerly most green. And In April 2024 The Chalkwell Pétanque Club was formally opened.

We now have four bowls rinks and two pétanque courts( and plan to construct two more).

The Bowls Club is open from mid April to late September. The Pétanque Club is open all year round.

Both the Bowls Club and The Pétanque Club welcome new members. You can join one or both, and this year as a special promotion, if you join the Bowls Club you will receive free membership of The Pétanque Club.

We can provide equipment and free tuition for both. Everyone is invited, irrespective of ability and experience.
